The Pizza & Pasta Express and Train Shop has been one of Southern
Illinois' favorite tourist attractions for over 21 years. Our business
started offering food in 1987. Within a year trains were added overhead
and down the walls as a marketing tool to expand our customer base. The
trains chosen were LGB because of their quality craftsmanship and their
reputation for long term operation. Our trains run six to eight hours a
day, six days a week. They are given a rest on major holidays.
As soon as we began running LGB trains many customers requested
information on how they could purchase the trains for their homes
and businesses. At that time we decided to sell the trains instead of
sending our customers elsewhere. In 1988 we purchased a second building
adjacent to our restaurant. We chiseled through three layers of
bricks to interconnect the buildings with the second building becoming
our retail train store. The train shop also houses our 12' by 26'
operating display. Since that time we have experienced yearly
growth. We will provide quality products and friendly
service each time you do business with us. We specialize in LGB,
Lehmann, Pola, Piko, USA, Arist-Craft, Lionel and Learning Curve
Thomas the Train Products and CARRERA Slot Cars and Sets. Please feel free to contact us with any
railroading needs you have. If you are ever traveling on Interstate 57
then please stop by for a good meal and enjoy our trains in full
operation. We even have an engine with 2 cars that was fabricated
out of wood so that our patrons can enjoy their meal while "riding" on a
train. On January 2, 2008 the restaurant was transferred to
Frank Charles. This was done so I can spend more time with the
hobby side of the business. Both businesses will remain in their
same location in interconnected buildings and a close relationship will
be maintained between both businesses. Thank you for your patience
during this period of transition. Jim C. Kirk | |
